A fine ndeemba mask from the Yaka people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The upturned nose and the house on top of the head appear to relate to both elephant and the initiation lodge used during instruction of the initiates in the forest camp. The facial features in this mask are boldly carved and are framed by a circular polychrome ridge.
